Adult Bible Classes:

James
Teacher: Ed Carroll
Room 201A
– A 1.2.7 Ministries Class –

Sometimes called “the Proverbs of the New Testament,” the epistle of James practically and faithfully reminds Christians how to live. From developing a patient, joyful character by persevering in trials to being a merciful doer of the Word, humbly submitting to God and keeping oneself unstained by the world, James exhorts his readers to live authentically and wisely for Christ. A look into the “mirror” of God’s Word as proclaimed in James is a challenging but rewarding study. Please join us as we seek to “strengthen our hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”

SEEDS
Teacher: Carlos Maspons
Room: 110

SEEDS, which is EvanTell’s 12-week training curriculum, helps any believer become more comfortable and confident to share Christ. SEEDS was specifically developed to overcome the two biggest obstacles that prevent Christians from sharing their faith…fear and not knowing how.

Epistles of John
Teacher: Steve White
Room: Gymnasium

The Epistles of John focus on the Love and Life that come from following the teachings of Jesus. In these three short letters, John passionately challenges false teachings, emphasizing the truth of the Scriptures. He encourages believers to seek the joy that only comes from a life of obedience to Christ.

Foundations
Teacher: Pastor Tschetter
Room: Room 201B

When you hear the word “doctrine” you probably feel like falling asleep or maybe running for cover. But “doctrine” simply means “teaching” and in the Foundations class we learn about the major teachings of the Bible. The answers to questions like “What is God like?” and “What is the church’s purpose?” are not insignificant. For the individual who understands what the Bible teaches on these important matters, the answers become the basis for godly living. Healthy doctrine or healthy theology is always expected to result in holy living.

On February 19th, in preparation for our festival, retired CBC missionary, Herb Klaassen, will be speaking on “Being An Intentional Active Sending Church” based on Acts 13:1-5.

Mark your calendars for February 24-26, the dates for CBC’s Annual Missions Festival.
Our theme SOS (Sending Out Soles) is taken from Romans 10:14-15, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news”. We will be focusing on how we can better become a sending church for our missionaries in more aspects than financial giving. We have invited three speakers who will focus on different areas of caring for our missionaries. Dr. Jack Elwood will be sharing on the importance of keeping long-term missions alive. CBC roster missionaries, Roger & Lois Reimer, will be presenting the expectations of short term missions and Dave & Pris Reimer will update us on how to care for our missionary children on the field and at home. Missionaries leave their families and friends, miss holidays and special family events, move to difficult areas of the world, send their children away to boarding schools and back to the states for college, make cultural adjustments, and have times of fears, discouragement and loneliness. That is what their “feet” do. What can yours do?

The Festival begins on Friday, February 24 at 6:30pm. See below for a schedule of the weekend’s events. We encourage you to make plans to attend. We know that you will be blessed. If you’re interested in helping with the Festival, see the form on this page for ways to help.

Children’s Missions Festival

During the annual CBC Missions Festival on February 24-26, we are offering a special Friday evening and Saturday morning program just for children. The program is designed to emphasize the importance of missions and our missionaries and it will challenge our children to consider their role in missions. The program begins at 6:30pm on Friday, February 24, with a special meal just for the kids and will then transition to our focal theme. We will pick up again on Saturday, February 25, at 9am (please feed your children before dropping them off) and are scheduled to end at 11:15.
We hope that you will consider sending your child to this event. Missions is very important to God and this is a great opportunity for your child to learn about this topic and discover how even now he can be used by God in this area. Contact Daniel Bear at 402.339.7857 or at daniel@cbcomaha.org for more details.

Dancing: what a loaded word. In some circles it is never to be mentioned, in others it is mentioned only behind closed doors, and yet others mention it regularly. For just a moment set aside whatever preconceived thoughts you have about dance and consider the following thoughts which were taken from the online blog MarriageDance about how dancing can be used as a biblical metaphor for gender roles and marriage.

Dance as a picture of male and female roles: We’re all individuals, of course, but the Creator planned and created males and females differently by design. And He declared “it was good.” (Gen. 1:27) Male/female differences come into play in partner dancing because the partnership is made of one male and one female. Perhaps the first difference that comes to mind is the propensity for dancing itself.

It is unusual to find a woman who does not like to dance (though there are some). It is not unusual to find a man who does not like to dance. Dancing makes women feel beautiful. Most women love skirts that twirl and being led around the dance floor by a kind gentleman. One will often meet women who state that their husbands won’t dance. It’s unfortunate since dance provides the perfect opportunity for him to be a hero, romance his wife, get a workout and have fun all at the same time! The thought of dancing makes a man uncomfortable. However, for the men who are brave enough to try it, they often find that they enjoy being “in charge” of (leading) the dance. And with the right instruction, they may find that they succeed and even excel at it.

Dance as a picture of marriage: Once they are dancing together, the man and the woman may be required to make some accommodations for their partners. Take the size of their steps for instance. A man may need to take smaller steps to dance comfortably with a woman who is not as tall as he is. A woman may need to take larger steps than usual when she is dancing with a man who is much taller than she is. Continuing this look at dance as a metaphor for Christian marriage, dance provides a picture of a male and female couple working together beautifully in partnership, just as the Creator intended. And we propose that picture reflects what He intended for marriage.

On February 14, we invite you to join us for the CBC Valentine’s Ball. The ball begins at 6:30 p.m. with a meal prepared by Mike and Cheryl Ozmun. After the meal, Sarah Baltzer, a ballroom dance instructor with six years experience, will provide ballroom dance instruction in the box waltz. This lesson is designed to help couples experience a picture of how a husband and wife illustrate their God-given roles through dancing as an example of marriage. The ball is intended to help you create fond memories on Valentine’s Day! We hope you plan to join us. Tickets go on sale this Sunday for $20/couple. This event is sponsored by the 1.2.7 Ministries and open to all couples, regardless of years married. Seating is limited so don’t delay in purchasing your tickets. Childcare is available upon request.

1.2.7 Marriage Ministries Events

Bowling Party: Have you been married seven years or less? Then join us for a January social time planned for you! On January 15, the 1.2.7 Marriage Ministries is hosting a bowling party which will begin at 3:30pm at Papio Bowl. This is an off-week for CFF so we hope you will be able to join us. The cost is $5.50 per person for two games including shoes. Childcare will be available at the church beginning at 3:00pm. Advanced registration for childcare is required.

After we bowl, we will meet at Jeremy & Karin Haselhorst’s home (707 Fenwick St, Papillion) to enjoy a nacho bar and a time of fellowship. Feel free to join us for the bowling time, the time of nachos, or both. Questions? Contact Daniel Bear at daniel@cbcomaha.org.

Valentine’s Day Event: The 1.2.7 Marriage Ministries is planning the 2nd annual 1.2.7 Valentine’s Day Banquet. Details are still being finalized so watch for more information which will be shared soon.

1.2.7 Bible Class: On January 8, we will begin a new series in our Bible class for newly married couples; a series on the New Testament book of James. Sometimes called “the Proverbs of the New Testament,” the book of James practically and faithfully reminds Christians how to live. From perseverance in trials, faith in action, to controlling one’s tongue, submitting to God’s will, and developing a patient, joyful character, this book aids readers in living authentically and wisely for Christ. Many have claimed that James and the apostle Paul differed on the question of faith versus works, but in reality the spiritual fruit that James talks about simply demonstrates the wisdom that can only come to us in the life of faith, prayer, and study of which Paul wrote. Their writings are complementary rather than contradictory. The book is generally accepted as written by Jesus’ half-brother James (Gal. 1:19) and is probably the earliest of the New Testament writings (A.D. 35-45). We hope you can join us as we go through this meaningful book together. We will meet each Sunday in Room 201A at 9:30am.
